Pushing the Adoption rates too low in Australia line again !!!
GO AWAY - Leave Australia ALONE.
Courier Mail has a article CLICK HERE entitled
Australia's doption rates lowest of developed countries
Someone do me a favor and tell me what "doption" is ? I'd think for a mainstream media source they 'd at least get their title correct !So what if we have the lowest rates of Adoption. Thats a GOOD Thing , not a bad thing.
It means we have very stringent testing procedures that parents have to go through to get that precious *gft* they are after.
Comments after the article are such as those about natural parents should have stringent testing before being able to produce a child, whilst I agree there are some horrific natural parents out there I have to say that when you adopt a child you have a far FAR Greater responsibility. A natural parent has an enormous resonsibility to love, treasure and protect ther child, an adoptive parent has even MORE of a responsiblity because the CHOSE to adopt a child, they CHOSE To take another womans child and raise him/her as their own. That is an ENORMOUS respoonsiblity and one that is sometimes taken far too lightly.
Indeed many argue that is untrue, but personally I see zero foudnation to their argument. The facts are what stand testament to the statement An Adoptive Parent has a far greater responsiblity to their adopted child.
Part of the article says
Thats just bluddy fantastic. They want to take the very foundation of a family unit and break it by allowing unwed couples to adopt. Sorry but if you cant commit to each other how the hell do you expect to commit to a child ?Adoption laws in Queensland have not been changed since 1964 but Premier Anna Bligh promised an overhaul prior to the March election.
After the election, the Adoption Bill 2009 was introduced to the State Parliament.
It is understood one of the changes the Bill will provide for is allowing people in de facto relationships to be eligible to adopt. Currently only married people can adopt.
It further goes on to state
Well BOOHOO. Seriously this wife of a movie star doesnt even live in Australia full time and is interfering in our laws.Advocates of overseas adoption are furious that Australia is doing little to improve its low rate of adopting children from other countries.
More than three years after actress Deborra-Lee Furness – wife of Hollywood actor Hugh Jackman – launched a campaign to make the Federal Government address the situation, lobbyists say little has been done and what has been done is "window dressing".
Furness and her supporters established Orphan Angels – an advocacy group to improve the long wait times and anti-adoption culture of Australia.
At the time she told of how she and Jackman faced an uphill battle when they tried to adopt in Australia. The couple eventually adopted in America.
As a result of the outcry, Canberra set up a body to streamline the process
The reason we have an anti adoption culture is because we once did not, and out country was a shambles and a disgrace with all the shoddy adoptions that went on, children being ripped from their mothers.
I'm disgusted and furious that she is using her influence of being Hugh Jackmans wife along with everyone else touting that fact to try to boost her following to further her own agenda.
I'd probably have more respect for the woman if Hugh Jackmans name wasnt in every single article (or any in fact) to do with her and her push for opening up adoption ease in Australia.
This article CLICK HERE talks about our Australian Government and its policy of NOT allowing Private Adoption Practices here in Australia. Becuase they do not want Child Trafficking. Look at the countries around the globe that have Private Adoption Practices and Look at the horror stories connected to some of them.
I hope that Deborra Lee Furness stops meddling in Australia's adoption laws and policies.
And...Just another reason I cant stand Labor. Not only do we have a jet setting Prime minister who spends more time OUT of our Country than in it, but we also have Premiers whose heads are turned by famous people (or wives of famous people anyway!)

So, Ms. Furness, who cannot measure up to the requirements for adoptive parenthood, wants the laws lowered to match her capabilities. The world today -- if I can't do it, change it to where I can. How selfish can one get?
DLF grates on my nerves. I saw a magazine article not long ago about her. She said that they chose open adoption for their first child as they thought that would be best for the child BUT they chose closed for the 2nd. Didn't say why that was, but I thought it was interesting.
I do think marriage is becoming less important to people. I don't think that necessarily makes them any less committed. Not that DP and I can marry anyway....
